A survey of television viewers across the Granada region (Cheshire, Merseyside and Greater Manchester) has revealed that viewers in Merseyside are unaware of when the digital switchover takes place.
TVonics, the North West based digital set top box provider asked respondents if they knew when the digital switchover takes place in the Granada TV region. Of those respondents in Merseyside, 69% said they didn’t know when it takes place and 31% said they did know.
The response in Merseyside of those who don’t know when switchover takes place is higher than the region’s average result; 62% of respondents across all three counties said they were unaware of the date for switchover, whilst the remaining 38% said they were aware.
By comparison, of the respondents in Greater Manchester, 57% said they did know when the switchover takes place, and 43% said they didn’t. However, Cheshire respondents were the most oblivious, with as many as 80% of respondents saying they were unaware.
“The switchover in the Granada region will take place on the 4th November 2009 for BBC2 and 3rd December for the rest of the ‘terrestrial’ channels - but its fast approaching and it’s worrying that the message hasn’t reached the people of Merseyside yet,” said Carl Butler, Group Managing Director, TVonics.
“If people have older TV’s without the Freeview channels, they can convert their TV to digital with a set top box – there’s no need to go and buy a new TV and consign the old one to the scrap heap.”
