At TVonics, we specialise in designing and manufacturing FREEVIEWTM boxes and FREEVIEW+TM digital television recorders. That’s all we do, so we can concentrate on developing for you the very best FREEVIEWTM experience.
We design products which are easy for you to use, fast and responsive in operation and eco-friendly. Installation is easy with quick start guides to show you in simple steps how to connect up and tune in to FREEVIEWTM. We provide comprehensive user guides for your reference should you need to delve any deeper.
Recognising that you or a family member may need to access the usability services offered by FREEVIEWTM we have incorporated the full range of usability features available for FREEVIEWTM in some of our products.
For the deaf and hard of hearing you can optionally display subtitles when they are being broadcast. Our FREEVIEW+TM recorders will also record the subtitles which again can be optionally presented when played back.
Subtitles also aid learning and comprehension for young children, non-native English speakers and adults with learning difficulties. Seeing text along with spoken dialogue is a simple and effective aid to learning.
For the visually impaired and blind, some of our products support the decoding and presentation of audio description services. Audio description (AD) mixes in an additional audio dialogue which narrates what is happening in the programme, making it easier to understand what the program is about and who is saying what. Explanations are often provided about visual cues such as the presence of darkness, bright sunshine, rain, clothing etc. Audio description is also beneficial to young children to understand what is happening in a TV program.

Whether you are interested in saving the planet or simply looking after your pocket, our eco-friendly technology and manufacturing should hit the spot. With energy efficiency in mind right from the start, we are able to turn on the performance when it is needed and then wind down the power consumption in standby or when timer recording. That means great performance, while saving energy. Cool running products aid long term reliability by reducing the stress on electronic components and also on the hard disk drives fitted inside our FREEVIEW+TM recorders.
Small compact designs limit the amount of raw materials consumed in the manufacturing process, reduce packaging, and lower transportation emissions.
All our products meet the strict EU requirements for the Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) which dictates amongst other things that we use lead free soldering and that the plastics we use do not contain components such as heavy metals.
When you add up the millions of FREEVIEWTM Boxes in the market (16M and growing), you start to understand the real energy efficiency issue. With the average FREEVIEW+TM box consuming around 7-8 Watts when running and over 6 Watts in standby, the numbers soon add up. TVonics FREEVIEWTM boxes on the other hand consume between 4 to 5 Watts when running and less than 2 Watts in standby. We even provide an auto standby function in case you forget to switch your box into standby over night.
But what about recorders? Did you know some VCRs consume over 20 Watts? Some older ones even up to 40 Watts? Our FREEVIEW+TM Digital TV recorders consume typically around 15 Watts in operation and a very frugal 1.7 Watts in standby. Because recorders (VCRs and FREEVIEW+TM) need to be left in standby so they can switch on and off at the appropriate time to record programmes, it is vital that they use a minimal amount of energy when in standby.
