Tesco, Argos and Comet first retailers to carry the first dual-tuner digital TV recorder with FREEVIEWTM Playback accreditation
4th June 2007, Bridgend South Wales – The UK retail industry is preparing for the launch of FREEVIEWTM Playback, the new standard in free-to-air digital video recording, with the British-made TVonics DVR-FP250 digital TV recorder. FREEVIEWTM Playback launches in June 2007 and digital TV video recorders bearing the new accreditation are expected to be among the hottest selling electronics items this summer.
Demand from retailers for the TVonics DVR-FP250 is already high. As the only current FREEVIEWTM Playback model featuring a dual-tuner (allowing users to watch one channel whilst recording another) it is leading the charge against other digital TV recorders currently on the market which have failed, as yet, to pass the strict tests necessary to gain FREEVIEWTM Playback accreditation. This has been reflected in four-digit order volumes from Tesco, Comet and Argos (where it will sell as the Wharfedale FD4 in its July catalogue).
FREEVIEWTM Playback is the latest way to enjoy digital TV and offers consumers the chance to watch and record over 40 free digital TV channels for a simple one-off payment. The new TVonics DVR-FP250 makes recording digital terrestrial television easy. The user simply selects the programmes they wish to record using the on-screen 8-day TV guide and presses record. Programmes are then stored internally on the large 250GB internal Hitachi CinemaStar™ hard disk drive – which has 125 hours of recording capacity meaning users no longer need to search for free tapes or discs. Not only will the TVonics DVR-FP250 record the programme requested, but it will automatically adjust the programme recording time to match any changes in schedule caused by breaking news items or over-running sports events.
The TVonics DVR-FP250 is simple to use and can be plugged straight into existing analogue televisions as well as state-of-the-art LCD, plasma, projection and digital televisions. The TVonics DVR-FP250 digital TV recorder is suited to a range of consumers. From those living busy, active lifestyles who want to catch up on their favourite TV shows at a time convenient to them, to those seeking an easy-to-use alternative to old fashioned VCR machines in the run up to digital switchover.
Paul Fellows, managing director, TVonics, said: “The FREEVIEWTM Playback brand will have an enormous impact on the take up of digital TV recorders in the UK. As the only dual-tuner currently on the market, the DVR-FP250 is well placed to capitalise on this trend. We expect sales to be brisk over the summer and into autumn and for FREEVIEWTM Playback digital TV recorders, such as this to be the ‘must have’ item on the UK public’s Christmas wish list.”
The TVonics DVR-FP250 has a recommended retail price of £189.99 and satisfies all of the requirements for Digital UK’s Digital Tick logo including the latest MHEG1.06 digital teletext.
